We have put a lot of time and effort into designing the house to balance good experiences with the potentially many people that might be sharing the house at any time. This means that the house is full of details that you're unlikely to find in other otherwise similar houses. Details that you might not notice in pictures and descriptions, but which you'll appreciate having during your stay.
Less chloride
Besides the standard sand filter, we have added a UV filter to the pool that reduces usage of chloride by approximately 20%, and additionally reduces the impact of the chloride on the skin. At the same time, it breaks down the molecules that are responsible for the chloride smell that is usually associated with swimming pools.
No pets allowed
Pets are great, but they produce allergens, dust and hair, and even with regular, thorough cleaning, people with allergies and asthma still get affected by it, and we want everybody to be able to rest easy during their visit.
No fireplace or wood stove
The smoke and the dust from ashes from wood stoves has a surprisingly strong effect on the respiratory system, especially among those with asthma, even if the stove is not used during your visit. In modern, energy efficient houses, like this one, the heat from wood stoves also tends to get trapped, causing the houses to get too hot for comfort very quickly, so even in the houses that have them, they're very rarely used in practice.
Drawers everywhere
The whole kitchen has drawers, instead of the usual shelves that make finding and accessing the things you need frustrating and difficult, especially in a house you don't know very well and share with many others.
All wardrobes have closets, not with the usual shelves that are difficult to fully utilise, but with drawers, making accessing your clothes so easy, so you can fully unpack and get your big bags out of the way.
Appliances for a full house
Compared to most houses this size, we have doubled up on ovens, dishwashers and fridges, which ensures that the kitchen is ready for a full house.
Practical entrance
With plenty of coat hooks and shoe shelves, so you don't have to bring it to your rooms or leave it on the floor.
Flow and space to move around
In other similar houses, the dining table easily becomes a bottleneck for the foot traffic in the house. To get around this, we have opened up a wall between the kitchen and the activity room, as well as created a pathway between the kitchen/entrance and the terrace. Additionally, by choosing not to have a wood stove, we have added several square meters to the activity room. As a result, the house feels bigger and less crowded.
Finally, rather than split the mezzanine (hems) into 2, we've made it 1 single space, so that it's possible for people to actually move around up there.
Guides for everything
When coming to a house for a short time, it can be frustrating to have to figure out everything for yourself. We hope that the guides on this site make it easier and quicker to feel at home.
Terrace heaters and wind cover for outdoor meals
There are 3 strategically placed 2000W infrared terrace heaters that help prolong the outdoor season and the evenings. We've also built a wall towards the west that provides cover for the western wind that is predominant in Denmark.
Dimmable lights in pool room and activity room to create the exact atmosphere you want
There are times when you want to create the right kind of atmosphere, like the feeling of a spa with dimmed lights and soft music in the pool room, or the feeling of a dive bar with dimmed lights and rock music. That's why we've made the lights dimmable in those two rooms.
Boiling water straight from the tap in the kitchen
It's easy to miss if you don't know what to look for, but rather than using the kettle when you want a cup of tea or boiling water for any other reason, you can get boiling water straight from the tap in the kitchen. There are safety mechanisms that ensure that it doesn't get turned on by mistake, so have a look at the simple guide before you try to use it the first time.
Sleep in darkness, even in the mezzanine
Our mezzanine is separated from the activity room by curtains, so you can sleep in without getting woken up by the Danish early morning sun, and have some privacy from the rest of the house.
(More) quiet mornings
We've ensured that there is at least 2 doors between the sleeping quarters and the common areas, so the kids can sleep while the adults stay up, and the adults can sleep in when the kids wake up. Most other houses only have this for one of the sleeping areas.
LEGO bricks
We have a large, well-stocked box of LEGO bricks available for use by children and adults alike. It's always so much fun to see the creations left behind when we use the house ourselves.
